| 3. | PNHS Film: ‘The Borneo Pygmy Elephant’ Wednesday March 17, 20.00-21:00 hrs Panaga Club Pelangi Room
A 50 min unique film by M.P. Wong, 2008. Following Bert Dausip in his daily expeditions deep into the jungle along the Kinabatangan River, in north-eastern Sabah, we witness some incredible footage revealing the most intimate secrets of the elephants’ family life. Occasionally these animals are seen bathing in the river - a magnificent sight where 50 elephants come together for a spectacular water show. Adults, juveniles and infants all spraying water, rolling in mud, and socializing. The film culminates in Bert’s successful mission to save the elephants from poachers, and have their forest home protected.
For many years Borneo’s pygmy elephants were believed to be derived from domesticated imported Asian elephants. Now DNA testing has confirmed they are a unique subspecies, who’s lived on Borneo for at least 300,000 years.

Hi Future Hobie Sailors and sailors that want to forward this announcement,
A brand new year for plenty of sailing. Quite a few people are already asking if there is a sailing course coming up. Therefore a schedule for the 2010 Hobie beginners course has been made. Here is the calendar, start date 7th of April and first sail at the 11th of April.
If you are interested, or know people that are, please sign in via an email to me or forward this email to others that can apply via email. Appreciate if both my private as well as work email address are used for the replies.
Signing in:
1) The course can only be given with 7 boats, so 14 people can join. Please sign in as soon as possible to avoid a fully booked reply.
2) Regarding the above, please sign in when you are sure to make this commitment.
3) A waitlist for a 8th boat will be made for the case we can arrange sufficient support from experienced sailor to guide in the first sailing events.
The course and further:
- The cost for the course is B$200, for the boats, snacks/drinks, course materials etc.
- some basic knowledge of the boats and sailing principles is required before the sailing starts. The principle is that a Wedness day evening of theory is followed by a Saturday of practising that theory.
- Theory will be given at Panaga Club, small conference room upstairs
- Sailing starts at Sundays 13:00. Normally the wind in Brunei starts from shore in the morning and turns around noon to be followed by a nice breeze from sea in the afternoon. This is what we aim for of course.
- Once the course is finished we hope to have a nice group Hobie enthousiasts that want to do some racing on Sunday afternoons the rest of the year.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Regards,
Edwin

'The action takes place in the living room of the TADS secretary, Millie, an earnest actress and committee member who never quite manages to realize her dreams either on or off stage. The committee and regular performers of the theatre group have agreed to meet and discuss the idea that this year the May Play will not be the traditional British farce (as in the past), but instead it will be a musical. The task of this meeting is to determine what musical they will stage and who will direct, produce, choreograph etc.
Each of the characters has bought along their own idea and ‘vision’ to show the rest of the committee and to convince them that their idea should be staged. As each character reveals his/her choice, we are taken into their vision as reality slips into fantasy and they become the central singer and the others (with choir chorus) become their supporting actors/backing etc…'
Performances will be from Wednesday 12th May to Saturday 15th May 2010.
We need singers, dancers and chorus folk for the show, so please come along if you are interested in participating! The musical is entitled 'The May Musical' and has been written by director Jean Kiekopf in collaboration with Catherine Gabites who will be choreographing and producing, and Erik Schaumann, who will be the musical director.
We also need people for all the offstage sides of things, so if you would like to help with make-up, costumes or one of the many other things then please also come on Tuesday, or contact jenna.overstolz@gmail.com / 8839024. If you are on holiday for the date of the auditions but are interested in taking part then contact the above email address/phone number before the auditions. Please see the posters in the Panaga Club for more details.
The opening hours for TADS Wardrobe (via Kenyalang Kafe) are 4.30 pm to 6 pm on Thursday.
We have a wide range of adult costumes (and some children's costumes) available for hire. We also have a selection of wigs and accessories to complete 'the look'. Costumes are rented out for a period of 3 weeks.
We can be found through the Kenyalang Kafe.

Once a month we have a time trial where you can run a timed 5 km or 10 km and every year there are various trophies from the biggest improver to the fastest.
Just show up on Monday or Friday and if you want to be kept informed about special PANAS and other running events in the area then feel free to contact Bernhard Hustedt at panas.panaga@gmail.com.
Have you tried ‘Auskick’? It’s a great alternative to soccer and rugby.
“NAB AFL Auskick is the Australian Football League’s key introductory program for boys and girls and their families. Through our WEEKLY COACHING PROGRAM you’ll learn the skills of the game through appropriately modified activities and rules, play football in a fun and safe environment and make plenty of new friends too!“
No prior skills are necessary; all that is required is keen enthusiasm.
The program runs during school term at the Panaga Padang every Wednesday between 5.00 to 6.00 pm and is run by Australian Rules Football Section of the Panaga Club. All players must be registered prior to participating in the program.
On completing the registration form provided, you will then be officially registered with the AFL. Further information can be found at the Auskick Website (www.aflauskick.com.au). First time participants in the program will receive, an Auskick Pack (which includes a football, backpack, hat, footy info and a drink bottle). Registration for first timers is $20 (including the bag and goodies). This fee is then reduced to $10.
Registration forms need to be handed to any of the people listed below.

The Cricket Section is currently sweeping for people who care to hear the smack of leather on willow with a view to getting active once the IAB competition (below) completes. Attempts to organise a formal team with the associated training (yes - including fielding practice), fitness and time commitments have been hugely unsuccessful and we will be working on pulling something together that doesn't any of these. To help us understand how many of you there are, please send me a mail and let me know if you are interested and I'll send you one back. D.Hope-Johnstone@shell.com.
In the meantime...
We would like to announce the following competition taking place on the Padang over the next few months. Whilst not a Club organised competition it will bring together talent from across Brunei in ten teams and is fiercely contested (ie they do fielding practise). Pack your esky with some cordial and sangers and head on down....
