KBBC Yachting Training Courses

The Makan Angin 2 is currently moored at Serasa Royal Brunei Yacht club and ready to sail once the monsoon season settles down. We are therefore planning to hold training courses through the Brunei Section of the International yachting Training https://www.iytworld.com/ .

For non-sailors it will be best to start with the IYT Introduction to Yachting & International Crew course.  This consists of theory (2 short days, to be held in Panaga) and a practical (3 days on-board, using our MA2 yacht at Muara). Costs will depend on numbers but are in the range of B$230-260 for the theory and ~B$350-360 for the practical.

For those with sailing experience we would hold a Flotilla Skipper theory . This consists of theory (2 long days in Panaga) and a practical (3 days on board MA2).
Costs in the order of ~B$300 each for the theory and B$460 for the practical

We would also recommend all who aim to charter a yacht take the Marine communications course, usually a requirement from most charter company’s.
This is a one day theory/practical course, with the opportunity to use some equipment, especially radios. Costs ~B$250 each

The theory courses could be conducted in March over a weekend starting Friday after work and finishing Sunday with the practical elements to be done in April when the weather is more settled. All course participants will need to be KBBC yachting section members.

Note the yachting committee would still want to hold familiarization sails for all aspiring skippers before allowing them to take out the MA2 independently since we do not sail as flotilla here in Brunei. The idea is to create a cadre of trusted MA2 skippers that can take out members with ALARP risk to themselves and the yacht. All skippers will need to be KBBC yachting section members.

All interested in these courses please send an email to kbbcyachting@gmail.com stating student name, course type, and preferred weekend in March for theory. Once we have this information we will plan and finalize costs.

Thanks, the KBBC yachting committee

Domestic Gas Interruptions

To All Members,

Please be informed that on Monday 19th February 2018, BSP will be doing their routine domestic gas line maintenance. This will also effect Panaga Club and KBBC. During this period the caterer is still open but only serving light refreshment.

Please refer attached for more details on the gas closure.

Children Supervision During Music Lessons

Dear Members,

Following on from feedback from members and staff with regards to child safety issues, The Panaga Club will be instituting a new requirement with regards to the supervision of children during music lessons.

What is changing:

Children under the age of 10 will be required to be supervised at all times during their music lessons. It is the expectation that a child be supervised by a parent or an appropriate delegate during a music lesson. If no one is available to supervise then the lesson will not go ahead and will be classed as a missed lesson, and billed as normal. Please note that it is the responsibility of the member to provide appropriate supervision during the music lesson.

Why is this changing:

Recommendations and learnings from new members have highlighted potential gaps in the area of child protection within the club which require urgent attention. The measure implemented above is intended to improve the safety of young children whilst on club premises.  Please note the music teachers have the full support of the Panaga club MCM for the excellent service they provide to our membership and we look forward to them continuing their highly valued roles going forward.

Best Regards,

Rob Harris

Performing Arts Member

Reporting on Faulty Items, Maintenance Needs & HSE Issues

Dear Members

You and I will go home safely.  This is also our aspiration as adopted from the BSP’s standardized HSSE vision.

The Club does its best to ensure the safety of its premises and the Section activities, and critically needs members’ help to keep everybody safe.

The Club strongly requests all Members’ cooperation to immediately report any finding of faulty items, maintenance needs, and any HSE issues by filling in and submitting the PAKAT Form into the PAKAT box located at the Club Foyer.  Similarly, you can also do it via Club Website through the Comment Form.
