Swimming

The Panaga Swimming Section (StingRays) is a dynamic group committed to helping each individual swim to the best of his/her ability, whether this is for leisure, fitness or competition. The Swimming Club aims to provide a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment that encourages participation and achievement through swimming. Individuals are supported to achieve their personal best in a fun and friendly family environment.

All swimming programmes are developed and either coached or supervised by our Head Coach, Tim Gaffney.  All swimming programmes and lessons take place in the Panaga Club Swimming Pool.

The StingRays is open to all members of the Panaga Club, irrespective of age (3+ years) or ability. If a Panaga Club member chooses to join a StingRay swimming programme then swimming section membership is required.  All new StingRay members are assessed to ensure they are placed in the correct programme.

The swimming programmes for children are roughly divided between teaching children to swim (Baby Rays, Beginners, Nippers, and Bronze) and swim coaching (Silver and Gold). The Competition Squad (by invitation only) is for swimmers who have shown potential for and commitment to the sport of swimming at a competitive level. All adult swimming comes under the Masters umbrella and assumes a basic level of swimming proficiency. The Masters programme offers adult swimmers of all levels an opportunity to develop their skills.

There is a friendly, welcoming spirit to all the teaching and training sessions and it’s amazing how Tim can always coax a smile out of us, even at 6 am!
