Lawn Bowls
Lawn bowls has been played for hundreds of years. Historians among you will remember the tale of Sir Francis Drake playing bowls on Plymouth Hoe just before fighting the Spanish Armada. Panaga Lawn Bowls Section hasn’t been around for quite that long, but we do play down at the beach. However, the only people we ’fight’ are each other and we use bowls not cannonballs!
So don’t let the apparent gentile nature of the game fool you, there is plenty of competitive spirit among our players, but the main aim is to have fun and meet other people. It really is a game suitable for anyone who likes fresh air and a little bit of gentle exercise. Our players range in age from the young, to the not so young and children who are able to use the equipment safely are more than welcome to join in.
The bowling green is located next to the beach shelter. The facilities have been recently renovated and there is more to come. Our aim is to continue to improve and maintain them for the longer term.
Games are played on Wednesday evenings at 6.00pm and Sunday afternoons at 5.00pm, but members can play more often if they so wish. Subscriptions are only $5 per month. All the equipment you need to play is provided, so you only need to bring along yourself and a reasonable degree of hand to eye co-ordination to have a great time.
So don’t be afraid to come along and have a bowl, no matter how ‘green’ you are!
