Dutch Committee

Nederlandse Vereniging Brunei (Dutch Community Brunei)

The Dutch Community in Brunei consists of about 75 families at the moment. The Dutch Community organizes various activities during the year with Dutch Night and Kinderfeest as the biggest events of the year. Even though we live in Brunei we celebrate the Dutch Queens Birthday in a big way! Kinderfeest not only attracts the Dutch children and their parents but also the rest of the community. For Dutch Night we pull out all the stops and fly in bands from Holland, drink Oranjebitter and eat kroketten, haring and party the night away.

Furthermore we organize the Dutch tradition of Sinterklaas around December 5th, Sint Maarten, Welkom-terug-fietsdiner in September and we fly in Dutch comedians when possible. We have a special Dutch magazine which appears 4 times a year.

On a casual note: every Friday a large group of ‘Dutchies’ get together at the beach shelter to watch the sun go down!

Apart from all these events there is the Panaga School with a Dutch stream and currently they have 6 Dutch teachers, three at the Teraja building (yrs 4-6) and three at the Rampayoh building (yrs 1-3).

The Dutch community also has its own consulate in Brunei where they can organize various paperwork, renewal of passports, vote or just need help with official matters.
