Dance Instructor Robert Policarpio
Our dance instructor Robert Policarpio has been with the section for many years, he has shown himself to be a very successful dance teacher. He is very highly regarded by both the children and adults in his classes.
Robert is a Registered Dance Teacher of the Royal Academy, London, UK. Over the summer Robert attended 10 day RAD refresher course in London.

Robert was born in Manila, Philippines. At 19, he started late training but soon gained a scholarship at Vella Damian’s School of Ballet and Dance Arts. ubsequently and not for too long, he danced for Dance Concert Company directed by Eric V. Cruz.
In 1987, he joined as a charter member of Philippine Ballet Theatre and few years later with Ballet Philippines. Through the years, he distinguished himself in the Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty, Peasant Pas de Deux in Giselle, Gurn in La Sylphide, the Poet in Les Sylphide, Benvolio in Thomas Pazik’s Romeo and Juliet and again in Pazik’s Trio and Scherzo, Robert Barnett’s Arensky Dances and in Paul de Masson’s Impromptu. He was also one of the featured artists of the Cultural Centre of the Philippines Outreach Tour , “Stars of the Philippine Ballet”, performing in key cities around the country.
For Philippine Ballet Theatre, Robert helped restage Balanchine’s Serenade, Barnett’s Reflections, Pazik’s Scherzo and Madame Butterfly, Coppelia, Paquita, Carmen, Three Tchaikovsky Waltzes, Testament, La Lampara and The Sleeping Beauty Act III. In 1990, Robert restaged the full length ballet La Gitana for the Central Ballet of China and Camille for the Beijing Dance Academy.
He has trained with Vella Damian, Toni Bermudes, Inday Gaston Manosa, Sonia Domingo, Paul de Masson of the Australian Ballet and Rinat Gizatulin, a former member of the Moscow State Ballet Theatre. He also took master classes with prominent international teachers such as Robert Barnett and Thomas Pazik of the Atlanta Ballet, Tina Santos
of the Harid Conservatory, Laura Alonso of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Thomas Mayr of the Munich Opera Ballet, Gayana of Kirov Ballet, Madame Wu of the Central Ballet of China , Jan Linken of the Berlin Opera Ballet and Anatoly Panasiukov of the Moscow Ballet.
In 1993, Robert took the Intermediate and Advanced Examinations of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), receiving the marks “Honours” and “Highly Commended”, respectively. Four years later, he took the RAD Teaching Certificate Examinations and was awarded the Academy’s Teaching Certificate for having satisfied the requirements of the Programme in Classical Ballet.
Robert, at present, is the resident teacher of the Panaga Dance Centre in Brunei where for over 14 years, he has trained and coached students for the Royal Academy of Dance Examinations and choreographed for the school’s annual dance productions. He also taught ballet classes in the Cultural Center of the Philippines Dance School and in the Netherlands with the Stichting Balletschool Schagen. Highlights of his teaching in Brunei was when he was commissioned to choreograph for the APEC Head of States Summit, which His Majesty, the Sultan of Brunei hosted and when he brought Panaga Dance Centre to Macau China, to participate in the VIII International Youth Dance Festival.
Robert is also a certified Stott Pilates Instructor. He trained and had his certification examinations in Vancouver Canada.
